You could say she shouldn't be here at all.

You could say she shouldn't be here at all. She was found on a Tijuana street with Distemper. Distemper is a killer. Distemper dogs are shunned. Thank heavens for those who try to help them. Thank heavens for those who succeed.
At-Choo Foundation takes on the toughest cases in Tijuana. Lia's was one of those. Her vets and her advocates fought hard, and Lia fought hardest of all. Surely she knew in her very bones the destiny she was meant to fulfill.
Distemper left Lia with a "tic", as it typically does. In Lia's case, it is a "twitch" in her front leg. As strong as she proved herself to be, as sweet and as lucky, there were still challenges....not every rescue - or adopter - is willing to take in a girl like Lia. But Family Dogs New Life Shelter in Portland, Oregon did. Like At-Choo Foundation, they never shy away from a dog in need.
Neither did Lia's adopter. It took a couple of weeks for them and Lia to find one another, but find one another they did. All we can say is it was meant to be. See Lia and her new sister in the comments, and prepare for your heart to melt a little.
These are the happy endings we dream of, all of us: The front-line rescuers, the networkers and transporters and likers and sharers and donors and rescues and sponsors. This is our dream come true. Our other dream come true is knowing that it is your dream come true, too. We love doing this together with you, and are so grateful to you, for everything.
Congratulations to Lia and her new family!
Lia, we love you.
