Today we invite you along on a very special journey. It is Clarita’s journey, our 200th mutt-mutt.
Clarita had an ugly life and an ugly incident left her blind. But a network built of compassion changed that ugliness into something beautiful. That network is you and us, together, and the volunteers, donors and partners that form and fuel our Mutt Mutt Engine.
We started this journey 15 months ago. As a dog lover yourself you know that saving even one life is powerful, meaningful, significant. You’ve helped us save 200. We are humbled by your belief and your support.
Today, Clarita is heading home. Stay tuned.
Clarita, we love you.

This is Clarita with her rescuer Angie.
You might wonder what kind of person would brutalize a little dog like Clarita so violently that the beating took one eye and left her blind in the other. Clarita’s abuser was no different than all the others, a broken, destructive man who responded to hardship by letting go of his own humanity. When you think of him, we hope your rage is overwhelmed by pity.
This happened in Tijuana, Mexico. There is no enforcement for something like this, no infrastructure or prosecution. But there is Angie.
Angie stares down misery with a heart as big as the moon, whether that misery is caused by nature, disease, neglect or violence. Angie is a thousand times more powerful than Clarita’s bully is cruel, and ten thousand times braver than him too. Angie was not daunted by Clarita’s terrible injuries nor the diagnosis that Clarita could not see. Angie saved Clarita’s life.
Angie nursed Clarita, healed her, and prepared her for today’s magical journey – the journey that will take Clarita to her new home, forever.
Please join us in thanking Angie for standing on the front lines of Tijuana’s neglect, abuse and abandonment, fighting hard, fighting with honor, fighting with dignity, and winning. The activism and victories of Angie and her fellow rescuers inspire us deeply. Please join us in thanking Nancy and Rebeca as well, two of those fellow rescuers whose actions have become part of Clarita’s salvation too.
Clarita is our 200th mutt-mutt. Today we celebrate her journey. And ours.

Clarita's journey to her forever home actually began last night, when Rebeca drove Clarita from Tijuana to San Diego, where flight angel Peytra waited to welcome her. Peytra and Clarita snuggled merrily, and today they boarded the flight that will bring Clarita to her forever home.
Mutt Mutt Engine is a network. You can see this network operating full force in the story of mutt-mutt #200, sweet, blind Clarita, victim of abuse, recipient of your beautiful generosity.
Thank you Terry for sponsoring Clarita's flight. This special little girl is almost home.
Clarita, we love you.

This is Clarita, formerly of Tijuana, in her flight angel's hotel room last night in San Diego. Today Clarita and flight angel Peytra boarded a plane to Minnesota. Tonight, Clarita will be sleeping in her forever home. Stay tuned.
Thank you Peytra. Thank you Clarita's rescuer Angie, Rebeca who drove Clarita to California, her adopter Colleen and to you, our beloved Mutt Mutt Engine community.
Clarita, our 200th mutt-mutt, was blinded by terrible abuse. She was saved by kindness. She is on her way home, forever.

A new life deserves a new name: Clarita of Tijuana is now Lita Ford of Minnesota.
It was challenging to get a photo of her because Lita's sightless, beautiful little face is most typically nestled into her new mom's neck, or tucked beneath her chin. Lita is doing marvelously.
Lita's life is not defined by the abuse she suffered or the beating that left her blind. It is defined by kindness. We are so grateful for yours.
Thank you to Angie who so bravely intervened in Tijuana, sparing Lita's life, then seeing to her healing. Thank you Nancy and Rebeca and Peytra, three more heroes in Lita's story. Thank you Terry, the scope of your championship of Lita's cause has been as potent as your fiscal contribution; we are so grateful. Thank you to Colleen who saw Lita's photograph and read Lita's story and recognized right away that they were meant to be together. And thanks to you, our Mutt Mutt Engine community, once again turing an ugly story into something truly beautiful. We did it, all of us. Lita is our 200th mutt-mutt. How lucky we are to have you with us on her journey, and journeys of 199 more.
Lita, we love you.

Another mutt-mutt leading her best life: This is Lita Ford in her Minnesota forever home, where she is absolutely treasured.
She was Clarita when we first met her. A beating in Tijuana left her blind. Kindness saved her. Love brought her home. You brought her home. We're so grateful.
Lita Ford, we love you.
