MAY 22, 2019
Prof. Willow was rescued from a Tijuana street with a snake-pit of a leg – broken, and infested with maggots. A wound like that leads to sepsis, and Willow had it. What Willow did not have was much time to live.
She was saved by the Warrior Angels of At-Choo Foundation. Her leg was removed. Her fever waned. Willow made it.
This is Willow at her foster home in Tijuana – short one leg, long on love. Willow will soon be seeking rescue, a forever home.
Please join us in saying thank you to the brave, fabulous women of At-Choo Foundation for saving Willow’s life.
Please join us in welcoming Willow to Mutt Mutt Engine.
Please join us, because together we make the world a little gentler for dogs and those that love them.

Willow. She lost a leg and most of her tail, but gained a second chance...and a following.
We can't wait to welcome mutt-mutt Willow on June 16. We can't thank her flight angel enough for reaching out to us. Of course there are endless thanks to the warrior-angels of At-Choo Foundation for plucking this dying girl from the streets of Tijuana, caring for her, saving her...loving her.
And we can't thank you enough for being a part of our beautiful, effective, super-charged network of dog lovers helping dogs and fellow dog lovers. We are so grateful.

To understand just how miraculous it is that we welcome Prof. Willow to Minnesota today, you must first understand how she was found, and what it took to save her.
Found: Alone, in a ditch, broken leg and tail both dead but still attached to her; ticks, maggots, gangrene, sepsis, shock and terrible pain.
Enter: Silja Jeskanen-Wehber and Alejandro Wehber, who rush her to the CVET clinic in Tijuana. It was estimated she’d been in that ditch with those wounds for over a week. The vet said most dogs in this condition would have died long before. Silja, Alejandro and CVET agreed: This one seems to be a fighter. Let her fight.
A Benefactor: At-Choo Foundation provides medical care for dogs in need in Tijuana – preventatives, spay/neuter, vaccines. They also provide crisis care to many heartbreaking cases. Prof. Willow is one of them. One of many.
Not a Heartbreaking Case Afterall: Willow’s leg came off. Her tail came off. Her fever subsided. Against all odds, Willow healed.
Teamwork: At Mutt Mutt Engine, we help people who love dogs find dogs love. We help people who help dogs find dogs help. We are so thankful to be able to help Willow. We are so thankful to be able to help Silja, Alejandro and the amazing folks at At-Choo Foundation.
Another Benefactor: Special thanks to Scott Rake and Patricia Rake of Dakota Valley Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for sponsoring Willow’s travel. So many are so grateful to you.
Flight Angels Change Lives: Thank you Anne Meade Kohorst for contacting Mutt Mutt Engine about your travel to San Diego. Anne asked: Is there a dog in need? Why yes, yes there is. Thank you Anne.
A Few Hundred Thank-You’s: Thank you Anne and Scott and Patricia and Silja and Alejandro and Elaine at At-Choo Foundation. Thank you Beccz Altamirano for fetching Willow, driving her across the border, and meeting up with Anne at SAN. Thank you Laurie for picking up Willow from MSP, Christina for fostering her, and Anitra at Secondhand Hounds for saying yes to Willow. If you are interested in adopting Willow, Secondhand Hounds will be the place to look.
It Takes A Village: It takes a network. That’s us…you and Silja and Elaine and Christina and Beccz and Mutt Mutt Engine and many, others. More proof that together we are accomplishing amazing, life-saving, love-spreading things. Thank you so much!
Think About It: At-Choo Foundation sponsors medical care. Unlike a rescue, they don’t raise or recoup funds from adoption fees. Their work is so important. Maybe visit their page and share a few bucks if you can. Same goes for Mutt Mutt Engine. We’re not a rescue, we don’t have profit centers. We run on your kindness, generosity, shares, engagement, well wishes…and donations. We are now a 501(3)c, which means we can provide a tax receipt!

It wasn't that long ago that Willow was found broken, maggot-ridden...dying. At-Choo Foundation gave Willow the chance to fight, and she took it. Her amazing fosters in Tijuana, Silja and Alejandro, nursed her back to health - short one leg and her tail - then so generously and lovingly sent her to Secondhand Hounds for her best chance at the beautiful life she has always, always deserved.
Willow will be adoptable in Minnesota. Thank you Secondhand Hounds for taking her in, and thank you to Willow's amazing foster mom Christina for making this little mutt-mutt feel so safe and cozy and loved as she searches for the forever home she lived for.

Lessons to learn from mutt-mutt Willow:
1) No matter how grim things seem, they can get better. (Willow was found dying, septic, maggot-infested, but she healed.)
2) Cruelty is no match for kindness. (For every sad story or horrible situation we encounter, there is an army of loving, willing, helpful people who want to make things better. At-Choo Foundation sponsored Willow's extensive care; her fosters in Tijuana Silja and Alejandro taught Willow what love means; transporter Beccz crossed borders to assure Willow could meet her flight angel Anne, who fostered her too; and all of us - you included - with Mutt Mutt Engine help too with travel sponsorship, placement, fiscal support and the well wishes that fuel and bind us all.)
3) Enjoy simple pleasures. (Be it the comfort of soft blankets, cool grass or pictures of very happy dogs, find the things that make you smile in your sleep.)
4) Hope is well-founded. (Willow lost a leg and her tail. Her condition seemed hopeless, much less her chance for a long, safe, happy life of love....and yet, here she is, vibrant and adorable, soon to be adopted too....as extreme as Willow's case may have been, this story, these happy outcomes...they are the rule, not the exception - thanks to #2, and each and every one of us, coming together to make the world a gentler place for dogs and those who love them. That's what Mutt Mutt Engine is all about.)
5) Dogs are awesome, and so are dog lovers. (Thank you for being part of our network, our movement, and little Willow's story. We are so grateful!)

JULY 26, 2019
Willow was found on a Tijuana roadside. Her gangrenous leg and tail were crawling with maggots. Who knows how long she had been there? Was she fighting to stay alive in those moments, or just hoping her pain would be eased?
Her pain was eased, but not as expected. An amazing team of vets and rescuers saw a little light in her. They tried so hard for her. And she tried so hard too.
Less one leg and her tail, she survived. And now, Willow has been adopted!
The continuing existence of this little life can be attributed to the warrior angels of At-Choo Foundation, who plucked a dying Willow from the curb, and sponsored her medical so she could fight…and win. Thank you to Elaine, Hilda, Beccz, Silja and Alejandro for fighting the good fight on the front-lines of neglect, abuse and overpopulation on the streets of Tijuana; for saving Willow’s life, and the lives of many others. Thank you Silja and Alejandro for fostering Willow in Tijuana, and helping her to heal – in many ways.
Thank you to the compassionate, caring folks of Dakota Valley Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for sponsoring Willow's travel. Your generosity and concern is evidence of the exceptional care you provide to you patients.
Thank you to Willow’s Minnesota foster Anne, who loved Willow with all her heart, and then found her the perfect forever family. What you did for Willow is hard in the way that letting our little birds leave the nest always is; you did it, and you did it with grace. And thank you to Willow’s new family, for loving her three little legs and tail-less scruff of a caboose, and knowing right away her survival in Tijuana was meant to complete your Minnesota family.
And thank you to you, the Mutt Mutt Engine network, who helped so much all along the way…cheering Willow on, offering support to her rescuers, and to us; for helping us find a flight angel for Willow, for sharing her story to help save others, and for being a life-saving force for good. We are so grateful!

SEPTEMBER 13, 2019
So it did cross our minds to post this picture of Willow today to help us raise some much-needed funds. I mean, look at that face! And to think, this tiny little creature was found in Tijuana, Mexico with a crushed leg and a crushed tail so long untended that they were crawling with maggots - maggots! - and were gangrenous. And to think, a week she'd been there in that kind of condition - that kind of pain - until the warrior-angels of At-Choo Foundation found her, and were there to show her the mercy her life had so clearly lacked. Did they know when first laying eyes on her infested and broken in that ditch that the mercy Willow was seeking was a second chance? I mean, how do you look on a maggot-covered dog with a gangrenous leg and gangrenous tail and know that what she needs most is not a gentle death, but a fighting chance? But those warrior-angels, they knew, and the vet did too, and At-Choo Foundation was there to flip the bill - like they always are - because, well, they know that every life matters; that every fighter deserves the chance to fight, just like every dog that is done fighting deserves the chance to die knowing love. So yes, Willow fought, and won. And a whole team of kind, brave human beings who helped just wanted a better life for her some place new, because in Tijuana, where a thousand dogs roam the streets, who wants a little tail-less, three-legged mutt? Sure she's a survivor, but down there, they all are. So Willow's rescuers wanted something different for her, something better. And that's when Mutt Mutt Engine answered the call, because we want to help the Helpers who help dogs like Willow - often from situations we can't imagine, and don't want to picture - and well the by-product of helping the Helpers is helping adorable, deserving beings like her find and live their very best lives.
And so here is previously maggoty, gangrenous Willow, now with her forever family in Minnesota trying on her new Winter coat (one of several we're sure) so that their amazing little treasure won't ever shiver from the cold.
So yeah, we need a little fiscal help right now, and a dog as cute as Willow is has been known to garner a donation or two, as has a story of survival such as hers. Especially with such a happy, gracious outcome.
But really, the timing is coincidental. Because we just got this photo, and it's so danged cute, we couldn't wait to share it with you. We love you Willow!
