Sally (the dog) is pregnant. She would have given birth in a culvert south of San Diego. She'd have probably survived it, probably. The pups? We'll never know.
Because Sally (the dog) won't give birth alone in a dirty culvert. She'll give birth in the loving care of Hailey (the human) with Contented Critters in Ely, Minnesota.
We counted Sally as one of the sixteen dogs your friends at Mutt Mutt Engine delivered to their better destinies yesterday. But in Sally's case, it's a quite a few more lives that our rescue efforts have spared, and will make beautiful.

It's mama-to-be Sally's glamour shot!
Sally won't be giving birth in a border town ravine, no. Sally will be giving birth warm and comfy with Contented Critters in Minnesota. Foster mom Hailey's tender hands and beaming smile will be there to help Sally welcome her puppies to a gentler, better world than she'd ever hoped to know.
Sally is set for life. Her puppies will be set for life too. There are going to be alot of them - see photos in comments.

The cycle of life:
Last night we learned our little Barney, the weak mangy-faced dog from Tijuana, didn’t make it. He is now part of the clouds and the soil and stars, and forever a part of our hearts as well. Rest in peace Barney Rubble. We wish so badly the world could have been kinder to you.
This morning, we learned that our mama Sally gave birth to nine beautiful, robust little puppies. Sally is a wonderful mother, and Hailey of Contented Critters was a wonderful midwife!
Welcome to the world little babies; welcome to life – a life that will be without hardship or hunger or thirst or misery; a life that will always be defined by love.
Sally and Pups, we love you!

Sally's healthy, beautiful, robust puppies are thriving, and Sally is a wonderful mom!
While the second part of that sentence would always be true, the first part is a miracle. Sally was found stray south of San Diego. Her puppies would have been born in the dirt. Disease or starvation would likely have taken them; Sally too. But the combined goodness of our Mutt Mutt Engine community changed up their fates forever, in the best of ways.
Thank you to Grace's son for acting when then-stray Sally asked for help; thank you to Grace for welcoming her. Thank you to James for driving her north, Contented Critters for welcoming her, Hailey for serving as midwife and to all the supporters of Mutt Mutt Engine for making this miracle possible. We are so grateful.
